Celebrating Mental Health Awareness Month: 4 Campaigns Making a Real Difference

Empowering Minds, One Campaign at a Time

May is Mental Health Awareness Month in the United States, and increasingly, it's a moment observed around the world to elevate mental wellbeing, challenge stigma, and celebrate the people and organisations supporting those in need.

While May is recognised as Mental Health Awareness Month in the United States, mental health awareness is championed globally throughout the year. In Australia and many Commonwealth countries, World Mental Health Day—held annually on October 10 and led by the World Health Organization (WHO)—is often marked with a full Mental Health Week or Month of events and fundraising initiatives.

At Raisely, we help mental health charities run digital fundraising campaigns that are flexible, human-centred, and built to scale. This May, we’re spotlighting four organisations using Raisely to raise awareness, drive donations, and create lasting impact.

Whether you're launching your first mental health appeal, growing your nonprofit's online fundraising presence, or looking for a fully customisable fundraising platform for your charity, these stories show what’s possible.

1. Beyond Blue – Turning Low Points Into Turning Points

Every two minutes, someone in Australia hits a low point and reaches out to Beyond Blue for help. In that moment, compassionate, professional support must be there—no waitlists, no barriers, no judgment.

Beyond Blue’s current EOFY appeal is raising vital funds to ensure their free 24/7 mental health services remain available to anyone who needs them. With trained counsellors providing immediate, high-quality care, your support can help answer every call—especially when it matters most.

2. Black Dog Institute – Research That Saves Lives

At Black Dog Institute, research isn’t confined to labs and journals—it’s turned into real-world solutions that improve and save lives. Their work spans education programs, digital tools, clinical services, and cutting-edge studies that bring hope to people living with mental illness.

One of their most innovative projects, led by Dr. Sandersan Onie, uses algorithms to identify people at risk of suicide through their online search behaviour. By intervening with carefully designed support pages and resources, this groundbreaking initiative is offering a lifeline at just the right moment.

Your support helps make this possible. Donations power life-saving programs, workplace giving initiatives, and critical research that ensures no one has to face mental ill health alone.

3. Liptember Foundation – Putting Women’s Mental Health First

1 in 2 Australian women are currently experiencing mental health issues. For 2 in 5 working women, the pressures of life and work have led to deteriorating mental wellbeing. And conditions like PMDD disproportionately affect women, with 7 in 10 sufferers also experiencing anxiety.

The Liptember Foundation exists to change this. Through gender-specific research, targeted support services, and impactful campaigns, they’re transforming how Australia addresses women’s mental health.

Their latest initiative, the #MeFirst campaign, is a rallying cry for women to prioritise their own wellbeing—and for the wider community to invest in solutions designed specifically for them. Every donation helps fund critical programs and research that put women’s mental health at the forefront.

4. Horses for Mental Health – Harnessing the Healing Power of Horses

This May, during Mental Health Awareness Month, Horses for Mental Health is running their Seen Through Horses Campaign—a nationwide initiative that raises awareness and critical funds for equine-assisted mental health programs.

With millions of Americans facing mental health challenges and too few resources to meet the demand, this campaign brings together over 100 verified nonprofit organisations to expand access to life-changing, horse-based therapy.

Supporters can choose an organisation that speaks to them, donate directly, and celebrate the ripple effect of their impact. By backing these programs, donors help people of all ages find healing, connection, and hope—through the unique bond between humans and horses.
